Hi,
My name is Greg Lewis. I am a Canadian professor teaching EFL to university aged students. I am a past teacher at Times TESOL, and I have been invited to give a brief lecture/workshop on November 30, 2013 to alumni of Times TESOL.
I have been given the following questions as a framework for the lecture/workshop:
Q1:
How can teachers encourage more students to use full length sentences in conversation?
Q2 (in two parts)
Scenario 1
Students in elementary, middle and high schools are sometimes sensitive to making mistakes in front of others. However, students in one class often have differing abilities which makes it difficult for teachers to get all students to confidently participate to their full potential.
Q
Which is better, to mix different levels together or to group them according to level.
Scenario 2
Let's assume that a group is made up of high level and low level students, and the lower level students are aware of the differential. The lower level students are embarrassed and hurt by this situation.
Q
What is the most effective way to scaffold learning in this situation?, and why is scaffolding necessary?
Q3:
Please describe Total Physical Response (TPR) and how it is applied in the classroom. Please include reference books on the subject.
If there is anything you would like to add before November 30, please leave it as a comment below.
I'll see you all soon!
G
